Bad hair day.

I used to think they were a bit of a myth. But they certainly aren't.

I have one every three months. The day I go to the hairdresser. Don't get me wrong - I LOVE my hairdresser. I LOVE her so much I fly to Melbourne to have my hair cut. Indulgent much? But in my defense, I have never had anyone cut my hair as well as she does, and when you have curly hair you follow a good hairdresser to the ends of the earth. But anyway, she used to blowdry my hair really well when she worked at her Sydney salon. Now she works at a salon where they use totally organic products. Very few styling creams and potions. Very little spray. My hair lives on styling wax. It drinks the stuff. The more pomade and products the better it looks.

Now, when I leave the salon, I look slightly poodle-esque. Flufforama. And honestly, Melbourne is a long way to go for a bad blowdry. I have to leave it at least a day before I wash it again because otherwise the fluffiness continues for another wash cycle and I just cannot cope with that. I have considered telling her but I have had 18 months of blowdrys without saying anything and I can't say something now.

So today is the poodle hair day. I am huddling under the blankets today I think. Mr K wants me to go to the shops with him but there's a 1% chance I might see someone I know and that's too big a risk for me.

Perhaps if I put a bag over my head, it will be ok?

Miss Kitty-Cat, this post is so funny. But I can totally relate. Except for me, a bad hair day lasts a few months, i.e. most of winter. I've got curly thick hair and in winter or when the humidity goes up my hair just looks like a frizzy broom. I wish someone would just invent an abra-cadabra 5 second type solution to make it not look so scary... That person would become a millionaire!!!

Hey! Are you in Melbourne, poodle girl?!

I am dying to know the sex. I was pawing at soft yarns yesterday in the wool shop...

BB - KMS's curl up range changed my life. Even when it's uber humid my hair still looks ok. I like the shampoo and conditioner and the curl up control cream. I twist the curls, spray with water and blow dry with a diffuser. My hair always looks defined. That's why it's so disappointing when I go to the hairdresser and it looks worse than when I do it myself :(

Mummy - I was down briefly yesterday - mostly to see a friend who is due to give birth any minute. I had to rub her bump for luck! The not knowing is killing me too - as soon as I know you will know!

i too will follow my girl wherever. when you find someone tht can deal with thick curly hair you will go where they go. when my thick curly hair is poofy i put a ski hat on for a couple of hours and it does the trick.

I can never be bothered to go more than a 10 minute radius from my work / home to get my hair did, but then I don't have fussy hair. Melbourne is inconceiiiiiivable to me still. Props to ya.

I am definitely the person to suffer in silence with bad hair though. No guts to say anything to the hairdresser :(

Hope Mr Kitty is making you some tea to drink underneath that blanket today.

I know exactly how this feels, sans the curls bit (my hair's as straight and flat as a ruler). My hair always goes into shock for about a week after a haircut. I am very pro-organic and anything natural, but my hair has never been so dry and damaged since switching to organic. And I've tried lots :(

Miss Kitty Cat, thanks so much for the rec, I'll be giving KMS's curl up range a go. I'm usually willing to give most things a go to try and get my frizzy broom under control!!!! :p

Janet - when you find someone good you stick with them, no matter where they go!

Clare - much tea was drunk and I sent Mr K to the shops with the list. Hair is washed now and no poodle do!

Kiki - post-traumatic haircut syndrome affects many. It's an underrated affliction.

Sophie - thanks for the advice - next time will dig out the cap and the baggy jeans!

Maxabella - I know, but I'm the biggest woos ever, and with one day every three months looking like a fluffy dog, I'm willing to risk it...

BB - I really like the stuff. I hope i works for you!

Miss Kitts... you are funny - poodle hair?!! Am sure you still look lovely but I think you are going to have to be brave and 'fess up to the hairdresser (or show her the blog!) And next time you come to Melbourne for the hair maybe we can meet up for coffee? (promise I will bring you a hat if you think you are too poodle-esque!!) XXX
