As many of you might already be aware, I am an avid baker. I am particularly fond of baking biscuits and cakes - many of which I give away at Christmas as gifts to friends and work colleagues. We have a very old Kenwood Chef at home - and although it technically still does the trick, admirable after 30+ years of dedicated service, the time has come to look into a replacement. I'll miss baking with her, but I certainly won't miss the insane amount of noise she makes (the cats hide every time I drag her out) - nor will I miss having to hold her down on the bench anytime I want to cook anything.
After many years of lusting after a KitchenAid, the time has finally come to buy a new one. As part of my leaving gift from work, I have asked for a Peters of Kensington voucher which I can put towards the purchase of my shiny new toy!
The only dilemma is - which one to buy? The problem: I'm not sure what colours my new kitchen in the house will be, but it's likely to be a neutral kitchen. It's definitely going to be modern and we are having some kind of caesarstone or granite benchtop. I have narrowed it down to these four:
KitchenAid Cream:
Very neutral and classic - It won't go out of style in a hurry. It wouldn't look out of place in any kitchen - it's a very practical choice. But I wonder if it's a tad... boring for Miss Kitty?
KitchenAid Pistachio:
I've always loved the muted green of this KitchenAid. It's soft enough to not clash with most things but it's got a style and simplicity all it's own. It might make a nice contrast in a neutral kitchen. It's the kind of mixer Martha would own and that would be a good thing. But will the green go out of style?
KitchenAid Candy Apple (Limited Edition):
I'm a sucker for anything limited. It have an exclusivity about it. The metallic sheen of the candy apple makes it more appealing to me than the straight Empire Red (which would have been on this list had the Candy Apple not been available). I do wonder if it's going to be too bright for a neutral kitchen though? And because it's limited, I can't buy the matching blender, kitchenwhizz etc. down the track. Dilemma!
And finally...
KitchenAid Metallic Silver: I do really love this one. We are going to have a fair amount of silver in the house so this will work as an accent without looking too industrial. And it would likely go with the appliances (oven, fridge etc.). But will it be too matchy matchy?
So I'd appreciate your comments - which KitchenAid should I buy??

red or silver - at least they have your colour in this country ;)
I like the pistachio and the red - that's what I'm tossing up for myself :P
I love the look of kitchen aids. What is the colour scheme of your kitchen? (oh just read you dont know yet) I really like the look of the cream and pistacio - i think they have a lovely vintage vibe, but would still suit a modern kitchen, and would complement and pop rather than compete with your snazzy new kitchen. I am no fan of red - the colour makes me feel angry. I think it might clash with a lovely bright, neutral and warm kitchen too. The silver would look good and would suit all your appliances etc (although the picture makes it look almost bronze which i dont like but assume this is just a bad photo) - but for me a kitchen aid should pop and not just blend in. Silver is safe, tidy and smart though. For me I would go cream most likely or maybe pistacio.
Purple Squirrel - this one is purple http://www.kitchenwaredirect.com.au/Brands/KitchenAid-Stand-Mixers/KitchenAid-Artisan-Mixer-KSM150-Boysenberry
Mine is a yummy buttery yellow, and it sits on the bench permanently (we have severe storage issues in our little apartment!) so it's always visible. Mum's one is 'almond' which looks rather a lot like the cream one you have posted. It's stunning, and I wish I had hers - but mine is pretty fun too :)
I was at DJs at the weekend looking at the kitchenaids (I am in the market for the food processor..) and they had the Candy Apple and I'm not sure it is quite to my taste - nice and bright, but perhaps a bit too 'out there'? At least for me...
If you are worried about the cream being too dull, I'd go for the pistachio. It's a lovely refined shade and I'm not sure it's the kind of green that will date too much (perhaps it will take on a 'vintage' feel but not so much 'dated'!).
My 2c worth, anyway. Just make sure whatever you get you go and buy the pasta attachment. LOVE!!!
xx
I love the Candy Apple!
I think the Cream is far too drab for Miss Kitty... and I worry that it would discolour over time. Although, that may provide an excuse for a new one ;)
Mmm... a lot of different opinions there! Keep them coming!!
miss kitty cat - I had the same dilemma as you last year but I ended up going for the Empire Red one. I love the Candy Apple but I do want to buy a KA blender down the track and would ideally like it to match. The pistachio and cream are gorgeous but I wanted something more eyepopping hence the red! Plus red and stainless steel look fab together! Good luck with choosing! ;)
In the words of FF, these kitchen aid colours appear to polarise and divide the people!
I like the pistachio!
Kitty, have you seen all the colours IRL? I don't know if you have E&S Trading in Sydney but they had a very good range all lined up when I last went in and the ones I thought I'd love I didn't and vice versa.
I have Empire Red and I'd love Candy Apple instead (wasn't available then) but it does show the dust and streaks terribly. I'd go for silver if I was buying one now because I think it would look better with less work.
What did you end up choosing?
Mhor - I got the limited edition candy apple red kitchenaid. I love it!
Awesome!! I just registered for cookies sheets and baking tools. I am in desperate need of a new mixer. Mine died last week..
Thanks for post.
